From what I've heard it's supposed to have a good English department, but that's about all I know.
I'd say its Midrange over all. English and Drama departments are very good. Law is also very well respected - as is Med/Dent at Barts and the London.
Arts/Law/Medic and dentistry it is very very good. Mid range uni, but university reputation alone can only carry you so far.

Some of you Brits seem to place too high an emphasis on alleged reputations rather than looking at what the school offers in your subject of study. It makes you seem kind of boring and look like cookie cutter clones.

Thanks. Any other comments?

Yes, even though the ranking tables don't really do justice to QM. But don't take my word for it, go ask ask people outside TSR what they think about QM, you'll be amazed. Almost every one I asked about QM said it's a great school, some even told me to choose it over better UoL colleges (I won't name them to aviod arguements).

The league tables I have looked at, ones ranging from 2005 & 2006 have queen mary's lagging behing some of the other UoL colleges. But when you compaire the different stats you find the only real difference is that KCL, LSE, & UCL have spent far more in recent years on their estates, and that QMUL seems to take in students with lower entry requirements.

I cant rate the teaching at QMUL yet as I dont start untill Sept 2007, but from what I have seen and the research I have done that did not involve looking at posts on this forum QMUL is a good place to study.

Polls done by The Times have QMUL students are the 2nd highest for graduate earnings, which seems to be an important factor.

I've just completed my 1st year of a law degree at QM and i find the atmoposhere is great. Some people outside of the university find the area a bit of a low-down but apart from that our graduates seem to get very good jobs in the city.

Yes. Some think it mediocre but that is a common misconception among the uninformed. It is very good for certain courses but less so for others. The specific repuation of departments, I perasonally belive, is more important than the generic rep.

reputation really didnt bother me. Provided I graduate, i'll have a university of London degree, which in itself is rated more highly than most others, plus i like the place. If you have fun at uni and get a decent degree at the end of it, who cares what the rep of a department is?

God help you (if you're after a decent career that is)

And God help QMUL once LSE and UCL follow Imperial.

Ay Tkane what happened to you man I thought you were dead...

back to topic, the reputation of qm is questionable if you browse sites such as this one. I would say it is an above average university and the fact that it is apart of the university of london helps unless like tkane mentioned that it eventually breaks apart. Also the reputation of Barts med college is v.good.

Well, I went to Queen Mary Uni today... the buildings looked lyk they needed cosmetic works. Some buildings looked really nice though. The way some are lit up at night is kool. Would love to hear from someone who does aerospace engineering there. Please let me know what you think of it and how good the facilities are. Or even better, someone post a video on youtube?

thanks
A video?? What would they show?
