you're a girl? what college? matriculation should be a black skirt and a white shirt (do girls call them blouses?), underneath your gown if your college has them. it isnt THAT strict but to be honest when i saw people at matriculation wearing like green sweaters and denim skirts i literally couldnt beleive my eyes and thought they looked ridiculous - guess im a traditionalist!

I thought it was formal rather than strictly black and white - we weren't told anything about a colour code, anyway. Not that I bothered going, ha ha.

what's matriculation?

i wore a green sweater :p:
it's just formal, no colour code.

I thought strictly black and white was the code?

I wore my school prefect tie IIRC haha.

Reply 7

Yeah essentially: don't wear trainers, pashminas, slouch boots, denim. Boys wear a suit and tie, i went for black trousers, white blouse and comfy smart black shoes.

It's definately supposed to be black and white. No one's going to be too bothered if you don't, but there's a few people with bright tops on in our matriculation photo, which I think sort of ruins it... But that's probably just me ..

I'm at trevs  dont think hild bede have gowns but i may be wrong on that one. Basically my advice is to stick to black and white and pretty formal - you cant go wrong! Obviously colour is nice and it's not the end of the world but I think it's nicer and better at those kind of things if everyone is to a good level of smartness and Black and White :tsr2:

We got told black and white formal stuff, but lots of people failed to observe it.

How exactly does Matriculation take place?

Reply 15

You line up on Palace Green with the rest of your year from your college, and process into the cathedral. THen you sit there for a while and people talk at you, then some people sign something, then you are officially a member of the university, then you leave.
The end.

Word. Should be exciting. How long does this 'hypocrisy' last for?

It will all pass in a blur of hangover-ness.

I'm actually getting scared of this drinking culture. The hardest drinking we do here is have two glasses of wine and drive! THE HORROR ! :frown:

and if you have a supercool college like mine, then as many older members of college that can be rustled up at the last minute will greet you as you leave the cathedral and make lots of noise and fuss. maybe even with a megaphone that plays the trinidadian national anthem if you're lucky  (yes that was the noise-making instrument of choice from john's. inspirational)
