Acne.....is it not important???

I'v had two consultations with my doctor regarding my acne, and collectively the total duration altogether is touching about a minute!!! he just doesnt seem to take me seriously!!!

fair enough acne is not life threatening but i'v found (through my experience) that at most times it is depressing and extremely crippling socially and that in itself should be paid attention to

basically what i wanted to know from other acne sufferers is how have your experiences been with doctors and has your condition lacked that serious attention form doctors as well???

Ive been through the same thing, some of them just arent interested, but some of them are really good about it

Go back and keep trying, see a different GP if you need to

Tbh although i dont have acne, i have ezcema and they seem to write it off as vanity to get it treated, when it really affects my life.
Maybe go about seeing a dermitologist who may be more sympathetic.

my doctor was really helpful, even though i wasnt too bothered about it, he wanted to help me get rid of it

i would go see a different doctor and ask about what they can prescribe

Definitely go see a dermatologist. They are there to deal with skin problems.

Reply 5

I would try and arrange an appointment with another doctor. Most Doctors I have seen have taken it very seriously and have been extremely helpful. It is a serious problem to you and they should take it seriously themselves. It is clearly affecting you so they should do something about it.

My GP was good about it. She gave me some pills to take and they really worked.

If yours isn't being much of help then go and see someone else.

Try this.

Granted, it will dry your skin (though that could prove beneficial); but it's the most consistently effective topical ointment there is.

My doctor's been really helpful. At the moment im trying a second type of anti-biotic as the first didnt do too much, and seeing as this is worse the doctor said he will give me a really effective drug but has to be monitored as it can damage the liver or kidney i cant remember which.

Roaccutane?

Profesh
Try this.

You tried this, Profesh?
Just on the spots, or can you put it on larger areas?

Yes; and I have used it to this day.

It functions primarily as a deterrent to acne-infestation, by accelerating skin-renewal. Apply it to the affected area (i.e. any portion of skin that is susceptible) in its entirety; it may take several weeks' use to determine efficacy, but the cream is sufficiently inexpensive that this shouldn't pose an obstacle. In fact; judging by the degree of affliction apparent from your photograph (i.e. barely evident), and provided the absence of allergic reaction, you should find yourself effectively 'cured' in relatively short order.

ask to be referred to a dermotologist iv been seeing one for years..i have acne..its no where near as bad as some..but its there and it will not ****ing budge.....iv been on at least 4 different types of antibiotics since the age of 15 and so many topical lotions...nothing shifts it permenantly..just a few months at a time..its starting to get me down this summer. its not horrendous buts enough to make me feel down and lose confidence in myself...age 16/17 its not so bad because everyone has it..when you hit twenty and everyone else has cleared it starts to piss you off

.next time i go to the dermo im going to ask if id be allowed to go on roaccutane...i always assumed it was for really really bad cases of acne but it seems they are prescribing it more readily these days..worth a try...scared of teh side effects though :s

i went to see my GP like 8 times until i think they got fed up, so i asked to see a proper dermatologist, takes about 6weeks for you to get to see them but he took a look told me all about it and gave me tablets that worked a dream (minocycline MR) and now i am free from spots :P i could kiss Dr Stewart :P lmao (the dermatologist) the GP's don't know what they are on about so ask to see a dermatologist, they won't waste your time and you won't feel like you're wasting theirs  good luck!

My doctor was pretty good about acne really, I went on a lot of different things but none seemed to make any difference, so he referred me to a skin specialist who put me on roaccutane, bloody marvellous stuff although I did suffer with a few side effects including back pains, regular headaches and lots of nose bleeds. My skin continued to get better until I was told that I was at the stage where they were no longer needed. My skin is still pretty good now but I still get spots quite regularly, I use Duac once daily gel and that seems to do the trick pretty good now though.

hi,

Iv been using treatments for my moderate acne (which iv had for 2 years now), iv been using Duac Once Daily Gel (oral antibiotic) i have seen some improvement in the two months i have been using them. I have just recieved a second batch which should last me for another two months.

what i wanted to know from people who may have used similar products to combat acne is in the long term, will these products get rid of my acne and how long should i use them for, iv heard a minimum of six months to see significant improvement so wondered if that was true?

in a nutshell do these treatments work and how long should i use them for full effectiveness

erm... well im on duac once daily gel at the minute too. been on it for 3 months i think and have noticed improvements in spots, although my skin gets greasy really quickly now which is kinda annoying.

erm.... i think you use it for 6 months then have another consultation with your doctor, as on my repeat prescriptions it tells me to make an appointment in november.

If it's important to you then it should be taken seriously - try a different doctor if, after explaining how it's effecting you emotionally, you aren't happy with the response.

Personally my experiences with doctors have been fine and I've been taken seriously, though my visits also seem to have quite short duration - either prescribing me the next antibiotic along or issuing a repeat prescription. I'm going to see my doctor again next week after being on Erythromycin for two months (my third antibiotic), I was assured a month ago that if there was no significant improvement with this he'll refer me for Roaccutane.

I can empathise with you finding it crippling socially - I've become a bit of a recluse myself this holiday because I'm uncomfortable being around other people at the moment.

I have had acne for 4 years, since I was 12. I have been on loads of different medicines, but none have worked, infact I feel when I use gel it makes it worse :s-smilie:. I have been on 'Erymax Capsules' for 5 months, so far no improvement. I am so used to it by now that i normally dont care too much, I just rely on my foundation when I go out. Mine isn't too bad, but at the end of the day who wants it atall? I just feel fortunate that I can cover them up with make-up. My GP sent me to the Hospital a year ago to see an expert, I got cream that is said to work, but I was allergic to it (as I found out the day after putting it on) it left me with swollen, red and very itchy eyes. I tried other creams and they had the same outcome on my eyes, so that is the frustrating part......I seem to be allergic to any sort of cream that could cure my fragile skin. All my friends have perfect skin, but ive heard that people who have bad skin when younger have great skin at a later stage in life......Oh there's light at the end of the tunnel  .

Keep trying. If it's bugging you, it's important. Maybe see another GP at your practice if you're not happy with your normal one.

I use Duac and I find it prevents acne rather than clears it. I actually think that when spots form it sustains them in their present state. I've found that if I allow spots to develop white heads and then squeeze them then they'll go away. Of course, medical people say you shouldn't do that but that's the only way they ever go in my experience. I still have some exact same spots on my face which first developed months ago.
