    Hey.
So I live in student halls and everything was going okay bar one thing. Rent payment. I've paid it, via debit card but now theyre chasing me for a credit card surcharge...except I used a debit card. (I dont own a f***ing credit card!)

I've explained it to them several times and they say they'll update the system or whatever and then the following day/week I get another more demanding email asking for payment of the surcharge.

It's getting mega frustrating and annoying and now its been esculated up to the Manager who is a royal c*nt and a half (First time i met him, he was incredibly rude and unhelpful towards me- maybe I should have known the name Leon tells you hes a pr*ck).

People have told me to pay it and then go and claim it back. I did that originally... and when it was refunded back to me it came up as being owed.

    Any advice would be nice...

...on a sly note though any chance I could get a bit of compensation from their inadequacies and wrongful harrasment of un-owed dues?? XD

    1. Dont pay.
    2. You can send them a note confirming why if you want to be that bothered. Can you contact their MD?
    3. You can make a complaint higher as well, but remember if they ignore it then you could be making an enemy.
    4. You could sue them in the same way the guy who charged cold callers did, but a lot of hassle.
    5. You could make an official complaint and angle for compensation. They should have a complaints procedure.

Btw is it a private hall or uni owned?

cheers. I've had a run in with them already on 4 separate matters and none of them were dealt with very well at all.
I was going to send in a complaint to their highers, but I was afraid of the repercussions. The manager on site is a tw*t and needs taking down a peg or 2 but he's a snaky looking guy and im sure he could actually make my life hell so I thought I'd let it go.

    Its a privately owned hall.

    1. Dont pay, but do give them a letter in writing saying why you will not pay. Keep a copy, but return it to eother the MD or head of accounts/ people who sent you the bill. Of they ever take action then that is your evidence.

    2. Perhaps they have a professional body or an official complaints person? They are normally impartial. You cna at least tlak to them without mentionining your bame, but seeking general guidance, then weigh up your options.

I've been there. Contact head office directly and explain the situation. List every interaction/email you've had on the subject. Say you consider the matter resolved and will consider any further letters on the subject harassment.

    There's no chance of compensation.
