Medicinal Chemistry - HELP!

Hi guys just got my results today and I got 3 Cs  in Biology, Chemistry and Maths.

Was aiming for ABB for Pharmacy at Manchester, so went to see them, but they said no as expected, but said they would put me on the holding list for "Medicinal Chemistry" and are going to let me know tomorrow. They say the chances of getting a place there are very slim!

I called Liverpool Uni as well, and they say they can offer me Medicinal Chemistry straight away, ie no holding list.

My questions are:
- What is Medicinal Chemistry? I've had a look at uni websites, but not much info there to be honest.
- How different is the course to Pharmacy?
- Is it a full-time course? and how popular is it?
- What are the career prospects with Medicinal Chemistry?
and finally.....what is Liverpool Uni like?

Thanks guys

It is a full time course.

Most of what I remember them talking about for future career prospects were in the fields of drug design and development.

And the fact that they said you could do it is quite encouraging - when I applied my offer was BBC, so to take you with 3 Cs is quite good.

Sorry I can't be more help, but it was my back-up choice a couple of years ago, and I've forgotten most of the info.

The biggest difference I assume is that you can't be a pharmacist with a degree in Medicinal Chem.

lol :p:

They can "review new drug applications from pharmaceutical companies"

They can "work with toxicologists and pharmacologists"

They can conduct "pharmaceutical and drug discovery research on behalf of organisations"

The list is (quite literally) endless! (lol)
but they can't actually be practicing pharmacists now can they?

(Such as Community or Hospital pharmacists.)
