Why do many elite universities expect BTEC applicants with A Level Maths to have done the Further Maths for Technicians module, but they don't expect other applicants who have done A Level Maths but not A Level Further Maths?

I'm doing A Level Maths, Physics and BTEC Subsidiary in Electronic Engineering, and I've been looking at the entry requirements for universities like Bath, Manchester and other universities, and most of them expect BTEC applicants to have done Further Maths for Technicians unit, but they don't say A Level Further Maths is necessary.

http://www.bath.ac.uk/study/ug/prosp...-requirements/

"BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering: D*DD, including Distinctions in Mathematics for Engineering Technicians and Further Mathematics for Engineering Technicians, plus GCE A level Mathematics at grade A."

http://www.manchester.ac.uk/study/un...y-requirements

"In addition to the following requirements applicants are required to provide AS Level Maths at grade B or above. BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with a minimum of 70 credits awarded at Distinction including the Further Maths for Technicians module, 100 credits at Merit and the remaining 10 credits at Pass or above. Applicants are also required to pass an interview."

I think this makes no sense for A Level applicants to not be required to have A Level Further Maths, but have A Level Maths, while BTEC applicants with A Level Maths are expected to have the Further Maths for Technicians module.

Could someone explain this?

Because the module you're talking about is roughly equivalent to some parts in core 1 and core 2 in AS level maths, not even close to A level Further Maths.
