See if the uni can put you in touch with current or former students and visit if you can.

Thank you for the reply. Much appreciated but the reason I come to sites like thestudentroom.co.uk is to get free and independent advice from students, former and or otherwise. Getting in touch with any University is counter productive as their opinions will/may be clearly bias. Thank you again.

I do love students who think the advice we as unis give out is biased! We do have academic and other standards to maintain and generally are best placed to help prospective students in terms of what our courses are like and about and what our students go on to do. People who leave reviews generally have something to complain about. Anyway, good luck!

I detect a little sarcasm in your response so I will assume that, I have in some way, hit a nerve. If in anyway I have I apologise but my reason for asking is completely emotionless: I simply want to make a discerned choice, and like it or not "the students" [who have experienced the courses first hand] are an important source that simply can't be ignored at least initially. I do not think i'm naive, in my opinion, to take every argument [of every student ] on face value as i'm well aware many will have grievances, both personal and legal and or otherwise, that go far beyond a few paragraphs in an online forum.
    Please note:
The next stage will be the Universities and finally a decision. This is quite a logical and sensible approach.

    Thank you!

Thanks for that but you can rest assured that you haven't hit any nerves I have nothing to gain or lose from your choices. I have been working in academia for a while now and am still surprised by students' belief that we will admit just anyone just because they pay a fee. Most good unis and specialised courses get way more applicants than they have places for so have the pick of the best of the best. We have no reason to lie to or deceive students into coming to us. I know of course directors who have told prospective students that they're not suited to the course or that the course isn't what they're looking for but they can only do that if you've emailed and asked.

I never said don't contact students so you've misunderstood what I've said. I said ask the uni to put you in touch with them rather than relaying on randomers on the internet to give you info. As a researcher I struggle to trust unrealiable sources and would much rather get my info directly from the source. Anyway, I don't have the time to argue with you and this is your application journey so good luck!
