SFE have stated that they will not supply me a new computer for my postgraduate course because they gave me a computer for my undergraduate degree. They said instead they are going to pay £160 to extend the warranty? I don't even have the laptop anymore because it was absolutely awful, it wouldn't even start up towards the end of my degree. What should I do? I thought they would supply me with a new laptop? Now I'm worried I wont have one for my course

DSA for laptops and computer equipment has been radically cut back in the last couple of years. Even if you're given one, you now have to pay the first £200 of the cost yourself. It is assumed that all students need a laptop, so an entry-level model with no modifications is no longer seen as being disability-specific. Given the basic nature of most DSA laptop specs, it's probably more sensible to use that £200 to buy your own unless you need some very specialist software/add-ons.

Even if you had been granted a laptop and paid the £200, you still wouldn't be given anything better than you had first time around.

Repair and maintenance us included in your DSA bundle, so you had the option to get your original laptop repaired.
