Is it because they are jealous alcoholics who wish they weren't such losers?

In my experience it's insecurities of their own drinking habits. You are living a healthier, better lifestyle and they feel threatened by that. They are too weak to stop drinking, and they feel that simply by not drinking you are trying to finger point at their poor lifestyle choices.

Just let it wash over you, don't let their insecurities influence you.

I don't drink, but I don't hate those that do. Why would I? Have you got some mind-blowing statistics for your statement, or are you just bored?

He's not saying he hates people that drink, he's saying that people that drink hate on him for not drinking.

As a non-drinker you are open to angry criticism and interrogation regularly in today's society. Obviously if you have a good reason for it, such as religion it's not an issue, but for those of us that don't drink simply because we don't like the way it makes us feel we are put under the spotlight due to drinker insecurities.

These people irritate the life out of me, I'd rarely drank before uni, when I got there people around me always blabbed about drinking every night getting wasted when in reality they could take 3 shots maximum and wanted to go home at 12-1AM. They are just trying to fit in and look cool, ignore these people

As someone who drinks and has friends who don't drink, I can honestly say I have no issues with those who don't drink.
I do believe there are people out there who may have a problem with this (unsure why though) but I don't think the statement 'Why do people hate those that don't drink?' is intuitive towards the demographic.
I do not believe any studies have been conducted on this and it would be a person by person thing.
As the reverse can be said 'Why do non drinkers have an issue with me drinking?' and although not drinking is the healthier option, it doesn't give anyone the right judge.

There are good people and bad people
    Ass hats and pre Madonnas
    etc etc etc

If someone doesn't agree or like your choice and you aren't hurting anyone, ignore their opinion and move on, but try not to tar us all with the same brush =) (I know you weren't but the question in a way did.)

I don't drink and I've not been hated on for this. It has been admitted to me though (by one person might I add so does not mean everyone thinks like this)
-worried will think bad of them and will be judgemental
-think you can't let loose and have fun
-worried you might try to force them into your way of thinking
-a bit jealous that your strong enough to stay away

Not everyone who drinks hate on non drinkers. I mean, some really appreciate it. Who else will give them a safe lift home (for free) and look after them until the hangover is over. 😅
Lol...not the only reason they don't hate us but this post isn't about that so...

Rubbish, being teetotal is no healthier than having an occasional drink and teetotallers die younger.

I have to agree with you here, being a non-drinker I dont feel that people who drink hate on me, but I often feel they have preconceptions of me:
    - cant have a good time.
    - the "sensible" one.
    - the person who is willing to sack a night out just to help the really drunk people who dont make it out.
    - worried we are judging them.
all of the above are not true. If anything for not drinking I get a lot of "wow i wish I had your will power", a lot of people admire me for the choice I have made despite the social pressures in todays world.

alcohol is a drug, which does affect processes in your body, being teetotal does prevent a lot of those things from happening, occasional drinking is not harmful though.

Exactly, nothing unhealthy about those processes occasionally, in fact they're probably quite good for us.

I don't hate non drinkers, I am one, I've never been on the end of any hatred because of it though. I suspect many of those that do experience angry criticism and interrogation get it for peddling these ******** health claims.

That's an interesting, if outlandish claim. What credible source(s) do you have to back up these claims?
