Well Done!!
Do you mean the first full week in October, or the week leading in from the end of september? Cos I'm there the last full week of September, and the week leading into October.

I totally wish I could get some experience up there.
I hate lving down here! There's no-where decent for work experience at all. And I just can't afford to commute an hour every day, or pay for accommodation :frown:

I'm sorry to hear that, I'm lucky that I can get pretty much any experience (although it is more difficult to get large animal vets (most are small, or primarily small), and pig and abattoir).
After karate last night, people asked what was doing in my gap year, and I said work experience, and they were all saying about money issues with that, cos we aren't usually paid to do work experience, and supposedly our parents don't get paid anything (like they do when we're at school), so how are we supposed to afford it?? I'm only able to cos my parents can afford it, but what are others supposed to do.

*Nods* It's a pain in the rear end! 'Cause next year I'll be paying my mum rent and council tax, as well as all the personal stuff I need, and going out etc  Oh well. Good practice for student life.
The only "related" job I've found so far is as a veterinary receptionist. Better than nothing, but not superb :p:

I suppose it is.
At least as a vet receptionist you can talk to the vet about things in the news and just general vetty things, lol.
Also, most of the vets I've been to the recpetionist at lunch time (if there's no consultations) can go and watch bits of surgery.

Yeah, that's what I thought.
I don't know if I'll get it yet - gotta cross my fingers. It's a brand new emergency clinic, not open yet. Passed the first interview - the next isn't 'til August!

There's more than 1 interview?

Yeeeah. It's not just your average 1/2 branch vets. It's a huuuge chain, so they're very professional I guess :p:

Reply 68

So when might you start working there, considering there's more than 1 interview and one's in august?

Reply 69

my work exp starts on the 6th october for a week, i've emailed to find out what i'll be doing. hopefully i'll get to see large animal cos its really difficuly for me to see much where i live.

Reply 70

Yeah I'm hoping to see the farm animal medicine and pathology area. I'll email closer to the time to find out what I'm likely to be doing, should I bring overalls and wellies or not, etc. That reminds me, I'll need to get waterproof trousers and jacket for farm stuff.

They said the clinic should be open by September, which is no issue for me 'cause that's when I wanted to start work full time anyway.
Over summer I'll be doing overtime where I already work (Debenhams  ), to get some money together - because I have a fair bit of work experience and a Paris trip booked, so can't really start a new job.
But yeah
Then I might stop the job about july time next year, and go get some more work experience before uni - if I get in this year!

Reply 72

That's the opposite for me, I'm getting all the experience up to March/April (if chester zoo will have me, lol), and then getting a full time job between then and start of uni, again like you, if I get in this year.
