Birthmark type thing... but not :S

Hmmm

Just noticed a random birthmark like thing on me. It's on the underside of my left arm, just above the elbow.
It looks like this but obviously on my arm and smaller. It's about 1cm long and 1/2 cm wide.

It's not raised at all.

The reason I'm concerned it because its never been there before, just seen it for the first time now.

Should I get it checked out? I'm going to the doctor for something else on Monday, is it worth raising the issue?

I have a huge one of these covering half of my right calf. It first appeared 3 years ago when I got a suntan, and never disappeared again.
Have you got a suntan recently?

Reply 2

yeah I've got a suntan, but it's not really on the underside of my skin. Although that's not to say that area hasn't been in sun.

I really don't know what it is, but since I've had mine for three years I'm assuming it won't kill us.
I could be wrong though... :-p

I've got one on my back...I've had it since I was born. I quite like it - makes me feel unique

If it's come about because of sunburn then it's worth getting it checked out regularly by a doctor to make sure it doesn't turn cancerous.

Hmmm.... I had one of those appear randomly a few years ago, from out of nowhere. Doesn't seem to be doing anything tho, and has been fine for years.

I also seem to get them where i've hurt myself and healed up, like a scar type thing, so maybe that's what happened

I've got one on my belly which is about that size. Not a great location really, haha. But yeah, if it's just showed up maybe get it checked out, just to be sure.

I have a few blotches on my stomach and chest. Stress rash, apparently. Except I've had them for 2+ years. :s-smilie: Oh well...

Meh, it won't hurt to mention it, but it'll be nothing.

Maybe it's a curry stain. ;yes; Happened to me once.

Curry stains can lead to cancer. Have you told your parents? Use a condom. :sadnod:

Meh, get it checked out for the sake of it but I don't think it is anything.

I've got the same but opposite, I've got a light tan but on my stomach next to my navel I have a white patch that never gets darker. I'm sure it's just a pigmentation thingy, nothing to worry about.

What you do have to worry is about is beauty spots or moles or whatever, that get quite large, itchy and DON'T have hair growing out of them. They = bad.

i have a birthmark like that on my shoulder and people always think its dirt and try and rub it off but mine has been there for as long as i can remember. if your worried get it checked out 1 min to ask the question and get an answer could save you a lot of worrying about it.

Same here. I was born with one on my back that looked like an equals sign, and now I have one or two more on my neck and arms. Thankfully, I'm pale enough that they're hardly noticable. I think it might be a mild form of vitiligo. :s-smilie:

OP - I had one of these appear on my thigh years ago. Hasn't caused me any problems at all.

I really don't think it's anything to worry about, I went through similar when a tiny one appeared on my upper arm and the same on the side of my calf, and I've never had any problems or reason to think anything might come of them. :]

Funnily enough, I noticed I had something similar on my neck two days ago and I was going to mention it because I'm going to my GP for something else. It might just be a change in skin pigmentation as a result of sun exposure, but like you didn't exactly actively seek to tan the underside of your skin Alfie, I equally didn't with my neck. :p: It might be worth mentioning to get a second opinion, as these things can often be quite harmless on the whole, but do require a bit of monitoring just to ensure they don't change at all.

I know lol hehehe you would think it's a birthmark if you saw the whole of my boob, but if you just see the top out of my bra it looks slightly strange lol
