I can't remember if they said you can sit an exam twice or re-sit an exam twice but it was either one of the two.

I sat my unit 1 maths exam in June and on results day on the 25th of August I got a d grade so I have to re-sit in January so does that mean if I don't pass again I can't do it ever again? How is that fair? A candidate should be allowed to sit an exam as many times as they like.

It depends what exam you are talking about and which examiner. Different rules are applied to different qualifications. Additional restrictions on retakes might be imposed by your school (e.g. they may not be willing to pay for more retakes). The best person to advise would be the teacher who told you in the first place.

It depends what qualification you're talking about. Some people have retook GCSEs, ie. English and Maths, multiple times consecutively. (more than twice)
