1. 25.0 cm3 of a 0.10 moldm-3 solution of sodium hydroxide was titrated against a solution of hydrochloric acid of unknown concentration. 27.3 cm3 of the acid was required. What was the concentration of the acid?

equation: NaOH + HCl ----> NaCl + H2O

work out the moles of the sodium hydroxide by doing moles = concentration x volume (remember volume should be in dm3 when doing the calculation)

as shown above, ratio of moles of NaOH to HCl is 1:1 so moles of NaOH = moles of HCl

so the concentration of the acid is simply conc = moles / volume (again remember to divide volume by 1000 to get it into dm3)
