Psychology revision help

Hey guys, can someone explain to me (simply) what is "maladaptive behaviour" and give me an example. Also is irrational behaviour the same as maladaptive behaviour or not?

Maladaptive behaviour is behaviour that is harmful to the person doing it. It can be described as not responding appropriately to the environment. One of Rosenhan & Seligman's criteria in the 'failure to function adequately' definition of abnormality is maladaptive behaviour. E.g If I were to have a psychological condition in which I had outbursts which led to me hitting my head repeatedly against the wall, that would cause harm to myself.

Thank you! Could you also explain what irrational behaviour or irrationality means?
