The 'I was only a few marks away from getting a...' thread

It happens to a lot of people. There are sixty marks between one grade and the next, yet it turns out that rather than being somewhere in between, you were just a few points away from that higher grade.

Happened to me this year. I needed a D in English (together with the Cs I got in Psychology and Media Studies) to get into Uni, but I was aiming for a C. I got the C, but was only five marks away from getting a B, which would have been awesome.

I was only 1 mark away from an A in C3 for maths. (79/100) On the flip side, I was only 1 mark away from dropping down to a B in chemistry overall. xD

Two marks off an A in Computing! Grr! It cost me my Durham place as well!

In Computing my computing modules I got AAAABD. The D destroyed all my hard work :frown:

A friend got an A by 1 mark, but that seems to happen less often!

2 off an A in chemistry, thus AAB. When I say my results to people they go 'what did you get the B in?' or 'aw that's so unfortunate'

I was 5 marks away from an A in biology!! but in BYA1 i did get 103/105!!!! :biggrin:

which i am really happy about. i also got an A in the synoptic module BYA8!!

my firm uni offer was ABB and in the end i came out with BBC but luckily for me the uni still accepted me!!!!

Why don't you guys try to get your uni to hold your place until you can get a remark? Stuff like 1 mark in an English/languages paper can always change. Less so for you crazy maths/science people.

Yeah I'm considering it. At the moment Imperial are still considering me sans a remark. I'll find the verdict on that first. If they say no, I might phone them and tell them i've asked for a priority remark in chemistry. If they say i'm in, I might get a standard remark anyway. :confused:
