what sport should i take up at cambridge??

I remember one of my coaches once told me that the difference between a sport and a game was that you could stop to do things like smoke and eat during a game (e.g. pool, darts), but you couldn't during sport (football, rugby, etc).

Badminton!

It's indoors, friendly(ish) and non-lethal but can still give you good exercise... what more could you possibly want!

Seriously though, I'm actually quite good and have won a few tournaments. There is a good chance I'd be able to make the first team.

Ahh....brings back memories of playing rugby for the school....some matches..we'd get oranges at half time...unfortunately...i could never eat any of them seeing as i'm allergic to fruit....but it was the thoght that counted!! :smile:

Do you play a lot of snooker/ pool? I seem to remember you posting a certificate or something for winning a snooker tournament. (Am I making this up?). Anyway, what is your maximum break?

ahha a pool expert eh....well if we both get to emma i think i shall want a game with you. I'm not pro, but whenever I play my friends i either win or only just lose. I;d like to see how good you really are.

Saying that, you'd probably thrash me!

And as for sport, I'm not a couch potato, I do do sport. I admit to playing badminton quite a bit, tis a good sport. I'd like to give grass tennis a go (looking at you again ralf) and If I'm extra good I'll keep up going to the gym and even do a bit of swimming. I'm not as good as I used to be swimmer wise, but in my hay-day back when I was 12 or so, I was actually the fastest breaststroker in London!

Yes, I think a pool game is definitely on the cards! Tennis is probably my favourite sport and I've been playing it since I was about 10. There are some grass courts in the paddock at Emma (I've never actually played on grass so it should be interesting).

As for swimming, I am not competitive at all but I'm a fairly competent swimmer. (again that can be catered for in Emma's outdoor pool).

I've just got back from playing with a uni squad player and an ex-county player. That bit wasn't too bad, it was that it was a 3 and a half mile cycle out of town and I haven't cycled since the middle of Lent. I so so hurt now.

Yep. If you do actually join it let me know. I would like to see if I could form a GAC within my university. Could arrange a formal league thing :biggrin: In other words if all goes well we could have a match. Expecting to get defeated heavily but it's the participation that counts. I know Liverpool JMU does some things Gaelic.
