i was thinking about studying at uni of Nottingham, especially since it apparently has a good night life and good clubs / societies.

However i know someone who dropped out of notts uni after they didn't get along with anyone and no one she met in first year liked to go out and drink. I know this isn't the same for everyone but was wondering if, in general, students at this uni were more work-orientated and if so it will put me off in case I get put with flat mates who don't go out

Is there a particular halls that would be best for me?

    thanks

When I was at UoN, there was plenty of people, and societies who enjoyed going out and drinking. A lot of socialising you do is with societies, so even if you are unlucky with your flatmates, this isn't the end of the world, and you should still be able to enjoy yourself. Maybe the person who know didn't join the right societies along with being a bit unlucky?

I know people who went to Notts and they were all pretty fun people actually. I think wherever you go you'll find like-minded people as long as you approach your life there with an open mind. The only exception to that seems to be people who go to some of the London universities in my experience. A lot of those people seem to get quite miserable about their choice, maybe because of how expensive it is there.

Notts seems like a good choice to me with a decent mixture of fun and serious people. Can't comment on the city itself, though.

I don't think they meant the city is bad - they just haven't been there/been there enough to form an opinion on it. FWIW, I think Nottingham is a great city.

Dropping out of uni because your flat mates don't like drinking is the most absurd thing I've ever heard

Students are the complete opposite of boring.
the nightlife is top-notch in the city, the whole city is student-oriented

I'm studying here now although will be moving to Leeds. I haven't enjoyed the nightlife or the city. That said I'm originally from a much larger city so for me it was a significant step down. I've found the lots of the students to be very career orientated rather than thinking about going out as such, they seem to be calmer than other places. Overall it depends on your interpretation of boring. They all seemed to be quite nice, although not necessarily on my wavelength

Well, if your goal is 3 years of getting sloshed, I can see why it might matter.
