Oh yes!!! ;yes;
He was incredibly natural, deft, empathic and sharp. It wasn't necessarily a matter of skill alone - his were considerable - but more of vision and ability to kill a game on his own. I've never seen a player do it as well as him - never. He was the first player I grew up watching who was clearly a bona fide genius. The 86 Argentina side was a reasonably good team, not bad of course, but nothing incredible - Maradona made a tournament winning difference. And I don't mean that churlishly - I really mean it.
I saw him once playing for Boca about ten years ago - very much towards the end of his career. Overweight, lazy, an absolute mess. Then he took the ball wide and even his own team mates didn't know what he was doing - he just lifted it with one look, lazy as you like, and put the ball over the keeper by the back post from two feet aside of the corner flag. :bang: Everyone was in shock. ;yes;
It wasn't simply his ability you see - it was his vision to try seemingly impossible things, and pull them off through blind brilliance. Watch him on the ball - it's glued to him. Best close control I've ever seen, bar none.
