    Hi,

I seriously messed up my a2's ending up with DDD in history politics and psychology (there was a problem with the whole history class and they are all being remarked .ie. oxbridge candidates getting a U in on specific paper...)

anyway i really had my heart set on reading and just really am in love with it. With those crap grades i obviously didnt get in but i did get into Swansea uni to study war and society. I know that i am lucky to have the place that i do, but i am not overly enthusiastic about living in swansea for the next three years to say the least.

I am now considering spending the next year retaking my alevels, probably 9 modules at mpw or a similar institution.

Just looking for advice as obviously turning down the offer from swansea is a big step and its somewhat of a risk retaking. I do have the intelligence for these retakes but my main problems have been actually getting down and do some work and poor exam technique.

many thanks in advance for your help,
    hugo

Is there no other uni that will take you?

    Have you looked round swansea?

If you've looked round, and don't think its you, and theres not other uni, then i think resitting may be a good option. This time use time wisely, don't waste it, and perform better.

As long as you really will knuckle down and do the work, retaking might be the better option if you are unconvinced about Swansea. Better a year out retaking and reapplying than dropping out and having no plan. You might want to check out how Reading would view a re-application if you improved your grades?

I'm not sure about the first bit,

I would resit, unless theres a university or course you really want to do available in clearing. (but only if you are 100% confident you will do better)

    Hi
I wouldn't go to a place you are not particulaly keen on goin. This is a big step in your life and has to be considered carefully, dont just go for a degree that they offer you. Just think carefully about it if you think you can improve the grades than im sure reading will accept you next year and at the end of the day its only really a year your taking out, time will fly and by the time you know it will be getting ready to go to reading this time next year.

    Hope this helps

am exactly same situation, both firm and insurance have rejected me because the grades are so different to what i was originally predicted. If your not happy with Swansea, dont go , have a look around. if theres nothing else you could always resit them in november or january, and use the rest of the year to travel or work . saying that, im trying to appeal to the university to see if they will still give me a place, not likly to have a huge effect but it may be worth a try, especially if you have emitiating circumstances. good luck!
