1. A train travels along a straight horizontal track between two stations, A and B. The train starts from rest at A and moves with constant acceleration until it reaches its maximum speed of 30m/s. The train then travels at this speed until it moves with constant deceleration coming to rest at B. The journey from A to B takes 8 minutes. Given the distance between the two stations is 12km and that the time spent decelerating is three times the time spent accelerating find the acceleration of the train.

If somebody could tell me how to work out the time part, then that would be a great help

Draw a graph. Call the 3 times t, 480 - 4t and 3t (time put into seconds).

Then use the area under the graph being 12000 (m). This will give you an equation for t.
