Theres a lot of people who have very rich parents..none of my flatmates had paid for their accommodation or tuition, or had loans. QUite a few have rather flashy cars, new BMWs etc. Some are toffs..some arent. A lot are private schooled, but theres usually a good mix.

when i went to the open day/english open day i got this impression WILDLY

i made friends with 5 random people and went round the uni etc - all 5 were snobby to an extent (parents moreso..LOL)

BUT! don't worry at all, snobby or not, we're all in the same boat i.e. going to uni first time by ourselves etc

however this is my experience and in uni there are loads of different types of people. so i guess it'll be fine.

but, if one looks at the breakdown of first year undergraduates from last year and the year before into location or family income i think there is a majority of people coming from the south-east and family income was highish

i can't remember the link, sorry!

btw i'm at lenton and wortley too!! congratulations on getting in and what are you studying?

PS: there was a story in the times about this girl getting into nottm english but her twin not! :O

I'm probably the most common person you'll ever meet. so rest assured!

when i went to the open day. on the accommodation tour, the group i was part of was full of posh girls.

There's a fair few but Lenton & Wortley was one of the best halls of last year. I'd say that Cavendish and Ancaster are a bit more 'rich kid' heavy. People being rich isn't necessarily a problem, it's when people are up their own arses. I met as many nice rich people as not nice and there were plenty of people as poor as me who were idiots as well so it is pretty much down to the individual person.

What got me was private school people actively looking down on non-private school people.

woah they do that s***??

WHY? when obvs us compies got the grades to get in...

i naively thought we were beyond that at uni! ha

There are alot of rich people. However they are mostly really nice people and uni is all about meeting new types of people. There are alot of 'normal' people as well and you generally dont know if people went to private school or not, unless you facebook stalk them lol. The people who annoy me though are the ones who show of all the time and parade their school leavers hoodies around going look at me and my posh school or act like public school *****. There are 'normal' people out there who are equally as annoying.

there are rich kids at any uni really. depends on the individuals. some rich kids are perfectly nice, some are stuck up.

How many people are you though?

Yessssss! Loads of rich kids you say? Make friends, gain their trust and rob them blind. Easy! They don't care, mummy and daddy will sort them out. Excellent. Remind me not to bother with my student loan.

It's the way of the world, get used to it. Everywhere you go from now on you'll come across people with wildly different backgrounds from your own. Wouldn't be any fun if everybody was the same now would it?

what is cavendish like in terms of rahs then?

There are a few, yes.

Absolutely, this.

At any of the top unis you'll get people with more money than most..

One of my closest friends goes to a posh boarding school - but he is also one of the nicest people you will ever meet. People are people.
