Hey, I've been told that comparative literature is very similar to studying an English or American literature course , except you study work from all over the world. Is that true? What are the main differences between studying comparative literature and other literature courses? And I'd love to know how people who have studied comparative literature found it

Thanks!,

Comparative Literature is all about comparing two or more cultural or national backgrounds. For example studying Egyptian or Middle Eastern Literature and comparing it to Western Literature.

English Literature can include any literature that has been written or translated in English and does not only involve British literature, but literature of the English Language.

American Literature deals with American themes, values, ethics, history, cultural experiences of the American way as it were.

I've never done Comparative Literature but I'd imagine it's quite expansive and rich is culture and history.
