Then you probably need to get it switched as the effects should kick in after about 2 weeks. What dose are you taking and when in the day are you taking it? And have you had any additional counselling?

1 tablet which is 20mg and i take it in the morning with water.

OK that's a pretty standard dose. Hope you dont mind me asking, but do you get OCD aswell? This can influence which drug your doctor picked. The dose can be increased as an option or there are other drugs your doctor can prescribe. I assume you are over 18 because this influences the medicine used aswell for depressive type ilnesses aswell. I really recommend you dont suffer in silence buit go back to your GP- it is a totally treatable condition if you get the right medication.

yeh i get OCD as well, think im gonna ask for a higher dosage and see what happens if not then switch medication.

Reply 7

Yeah, I would just switch it. It depends on how many miligrams you are taking, really... but if it's been 5 to 6 months has there has been no effect, I'd go for a different medication. Sometimes it takes more than one perscription to get it right!

The effects usually should be felt after 3 or 4 weeks, after the drug effectively enters your system and starts doing its job.

Some antidepressants are licenced for depression/anxiety with OCD and some aren't, and paroxetine is one that is. However there are others too so chat with your doc. I've actually just read something interesting about paroxetine- it can actually in rare cases cause increased anxiety (paradoxical!) so might even need a dose reduction! However this is only if you havent been on it too long. So definitely talk about this with your doc. Its all a question of trial and error till they get it right I'm afraid...

Have you ever been prescribed a benzodiazepine for your anxiety? The problem with them is the dependency issues; but they are extremely effective in combating short term anxiety problems.
