Doing a music performance soon, what grade would you say this piece is for those of you who have done it?
    Many thanks, in advance.

Having taken a brief look at it, technically I would say it's at least Grade 7/8 standard.

However, musically it seems to be quite lacking in any sort of depth. There aren't any dynamics and there seems to be little scope for expression, and expression is a large part of the marks.

I would personally recommend choosing another piece with more opportunity for expression, such as a movement from a Beethoven piano sonata or a Chopin nocturne.

Thanks, I'm deciding whether to choose this one or another one (attached below). The other one seems easier but has more dynamic variety and such.

That second piece still looks about grade 6-7 standard which is enough, and seems more emotive, and has tempo changes.

You might be allowed to add dynamics, articulation and phrasing to the first piece, write it in the score and then submit a performance of that.

Whichever you choose, you will need to be accurate and fluent at playing it, as well as expressive.

And there's nothing to stop you from recording both and then submitting your best recording.

Thank you very much - I was considering doing the first one for difficulty alone, but I just think I'll do the second one now, because it's more expressive (I can play the second one but not the first).

    Thanks again!
