I have been trying not to be awkward, i have been taking risks and meeting new people. But I feel like being more extroverted has just made things worse and makes me more awkward.

    Im especially awkward with girls

    Hey,

Don't try to be someone that you're not...that only makes the problem worse. If you don't talk a lot that's perfectly fine

Focus on being comfortable with yourself first....embrace your character and be confident in who you are! Once you've done this then slowly try to talk to people to improve your social skills over time you will get better and better and you won't place the same amount of pressure on yourself as you are doing now.

How are you being awkward? In what way?

I think the issue here is confidence, it doesn't seem that you're confident in yourself enough when interacting with people. You need to keep socialising and to be yourself, just be normal and you'll be more comfortable.
