Hi all, the question is simple: What graphics card should I buy for £50-£70?

Ideally I'm looking for something which will let me play thief 3 and HL2 smoothly on my 2.2Ghz system with 512MB ram but have no idea how much i need to spend to achive this. I cant really spend anymore than £80 but would be interested in any ideas.

    Thanks

    Tom

if you stretch a bit to the 9800 pro (~£120) it would be a worthwile investment as it will play all the games you require for a while and it is the ex-top of the range card... if you cant stretch then try to get a 9800 pro or non-pro 2nd hand...

they might have all stopped... i think they are focusing on production of the x800/x600/x300 series now...

yup if you dont wanna go 2nd hand the 9800 SE is a good choice as a fair number of them can be softmodded to a full 9800 pro
    EDIT

this is probably the next best thing after 9800 pro too... better than 9800 SE (as soft mod doesnt have 100% success rate)

Thanks for the lightning fast replies everyone. I should probably also mention that generally I don't play that many games and haven't bought any for the last year or two - I just make an excepetion for half life and the thief series.

I was originally thinking of getting this: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=51532 what do people think?

Dont get the 9600, go with 9500 pro, 9700 pro or 9800.

the memory is slower... but theres more of it... it will generally have an overall negative effect on the overall performance...
