Struggle to make guy friends?? watch

Recently moved to a mixed sixth form from an all girls one.
I've got mild social anxiety so I am usually fairly anxious around people I don't know well, but I managed to make a few close (girl) friends who I tend to spend a lot of time around.
I've realised I'm staying in my comfort zone and want to try and make friends with guys (as well as other girls), but I just can't seem to do it. Not only do I rarely get the opportunity to talk to new guys (the only ones I see are in my lessons) but when I do get the chance I have no idea what to say and they never talk to me.
I am usually very confident around my close friends, but I just seem to lose all my confidence when it comes to socialising with people other than them.
How do I get started with making new friends and not being shy/uncomfortable around guys??

If your intention is just to have a platonic relationship, talk to them as you would talk to any female friend. Say hello, find out their name, ask them what subjects they're taking, hobbies, interests, etc... Essentially you're just talking to another person. Maybe you get the impression that you're scared of being rejected perhaps? The thing is, you're just there to make friends and rejection is a part of everyone's lives so don't let that bother you. Be as confident around guys as you are with girls.
