So I'm a girl looking to apply for computer science. My top 3 choices are Loughborough, Surrey and Swansea. I'm having a hard time picking the final two. It's either UWE or Aston Then Hull or De Montfort I go to a boarding school so I haven't really had a chance to visit any universities. What are your thoughts? I generally like big campus universities.

Out of those options I would recommend Aston and De Montfort based on ratings, but I don't think there's much between them in terms of league tables.
If campus is an important feature for you maybe look for digital campus tours on their websites to get a feel for the place, that could help you to see which you prefer. If you still can't decide maybe talk to current students on here to see what their views are on the respective universities, or look at respected league tables such as The Guardian.

If you like big campus universities then why not consider Birmingham University as opposed to Aston. For CS I would chose Birmingham over Aston any day.

Also have you considered Royal Holloway which is also a campus uni and has a beautiful setting with woodlands and lots of greenery. Although its in a quite setting its within 45 minutes of London if you want a little more nightlife.

How about Liverpool? We have a big campus and a great Computer Science department!

I would love to go to Birmingham but unfortunately they want AAA and my predicted grades are ABB. Is Aston still a reputable university? And what about De Montfort and Hull.

Ah sorry about that. There is really not much to separate Aston/Hull/De Montfort/UWE. I would guess you would be picking them simply to make up the numbers as Loughborough, Surrey & Swansea should be where your firm & insurance come from if you get offers.

Don't forget to check out Royal Holloway. It really is an amazing setting and I know a few people who love it there.

I was also thinking of going to Birmingham and I too have a predicted grade of ABB, though I am quite unsure as to I would like to go now. The other choices sound pretty good as well.

Thanks, I will make sure I check it out. Have you heard anything specifically about their CS department though? And out of curiosity are you already in uni or applying this year.

Yeah I try not to rely too much on league tables but my choices came from the modules offered and general things I've heard about the university.

I'm honestly a little nervous about the fact that there are so few girls in this subject area.

I had a look at several campus', inluding Birmingham and Cardiff, they all seem nice, so that was what I was looking for in the university as well as their facilities and the general feel. Looking at the Surrey website they do seem pretty good.

I've actually visited their CS dept and spoken to students/staff there. My son may be going there next year - he has an unconditional offer for Computer Science Information Security (with an industrial placement). The uni has very good contacts with employers in London and the M4 corridor for both placements and internships.

Hi, I'm pleased to seeing that you are considering Swansea University! Have you attended one of our Open Days? Don't worry if you haven't because when you apply to us, you will be invited to one of our Visit days which is a great opportunity to meet the academics and students, find out more information about the course and see if you like the City as a whole. If you have any other questions about Swansea, please let me know!
