Here's my situation. I started off doing Applied Computing at uni, but changed to Computer Networks after picking mostly networking modules on the course. I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would, but don't want to change again.

My heart's telling me to give it a go for this 1st year. I'm just wondering if it's common that people change after the 1st year if they try their best but their course doesn't work out. I'm thinking of scaling back from degree to a HND subject if it doesn't work out, but I'm worried I'm looking too deep into it.

Some people do carry it on for the rest of the year to see how much they will enjoy it. If you still don't enjoy it I recommend you ask the university, having done the first year of that course what course could you move to on the second year so you won't have to do a degree from the first year all over again.

Hi, when I was at university, I had changed from Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence to Computer Science after my first year of university. It's the same course with different modules but after hearing the 2nd and 3rd year modules are quite challenging and intense, I just decided to change. It depends on your interests, are the first year modules for each course different or are they the same? Some unis do allow you to transfer credits over if they are similar (depends on the courses), but you should find this out first. Go with your heart, see how it goes after your first year and then make a decision; I did that after my first year.
