I am studying at as Biology, Chemistry and Theology. I am getting A* in my first report (love my subjects). At GCSE I got 7As and 3Bs, providing I get relevant work experience do I have a shot? My dream is to do it at Kings which is Very COMPETITIVE.
My friend said because I am will 17 when I send UCAS I will be at a disadvantage, is this true?

You meet the general entry requirements to apply, it's worth looking at Kings website and seeing the exact entry requirements to ensure you meet them. Definitely worth getting experience, it doesn't have to be maternity, it could be with adults in a hospital or care home, or with a charity, it is all valuable & you will gain excellent skills from it, it also shows you have given thought to this course and career path. It will also help you decide if midwifery is for you.

I'd recommend going to open days, worth seeing what other universities you may want to apply to as you can apply to 5 universities. You can get an insight into the course content and the university and speak to current students and teachers.

I wouldn't think it would be fair to say you are at a disadvantage because of your age, yes midwifery is competitive, but if you have the skills and passion for the profession then that will show in your personal statement and (touch wood) at interview, just because you are young doesn't mean that you don't possess those raw skills and personal attributes that will make you a great midwife.

I hope is helps and good luck!

Kings is more academic focused rather than experience so that will work to your advantage. I would still try and get some work experience, try phoning your local hospital and see how you get on
