I want to study computer science and I have started an online course on artificial intelligence on this website https://www.edx.org/. I have also done a similar thing for cryptography. Should I mention these things in my personal statement?? From what I know admissions care more about books you've read, etc.

I would personally say yes. What I did, was mention an iTunes U lecture I watched and contrasted it with a relevant book.
