I would suggest that for every halls - keep something warm and some shoes near the bed/door that you can throw on quickly when your fire alarm goes off in the middle of the night - and it WILL go off in the middle of the night!
Some are definitely worse than others though! Romero was definitely bad compared to Monte 4 (although much kudos to Alex/the other sub-wardens for making it as bearable as possible).

I don't remember Monte 4 being bad AT ALL! We never had it set off by some drunken idiots at some strange time in the morning - we've had a coupla proper alarms when someone wedged the door open and left their pans on the cookers...

No, Monte 4 has been great. I also found out that automatic doors on the kitchen are bad if the kitchen is full of smoke (as you can't get them to shut for 10-20 seconds). Still, at least that was at lunchtime (and I haven't repeated it).

Well Dan it may be better if you said Hi Candice... seeing as that's my name! lol plus there may be somebody else called Kidders.... hmm second thoughts!! lol!! Happy birthday for a couple of weeks time!! My birthday's not until 27th November, so i have a while yet! But then i too will be nearly 2 years older than most others (apart fom you obviously!!)

Oh god not looking forward to phantom fire alarms or genuine ones for that matter!! Urrrrgh! I hope i'm not on the top floor... how many floors are there? I also don't fancy been ground floor for the purpose of passers by spying on me! hehehe!

So someone fill me in... how many floors are there and how many rooms on each floor? Also does this coincide with how many people share a kitchen?... Is there a gardeny area for all those illusive summer days??

There's a bit of grass between the laundry room and the bike shed, and it's sheltered from the road which is nice.

    Maybe 3 floors max?

The flat I was in had a max of 7 people sharing a kitchen, but the kitchens were well organised.

It's convenient that Romero has the bike shed

Yeah there's some sheltered grassy areas round the back too.

I had 7 people in my flat too but I know there is one flat with 10 in and I think a couple with 9.

There's 4 floors (so ground, first, second and third) and a lift you can't use

There's also more than one exit and entrance, which is a bonus when you're all trying to get in and out at once

Try to check your post when it's not busy, or else do what we did and have an agreement that whoever goes past the post box first collects it and shoves it under the appropriate person's door. You don't want your flat postbox to get full

True... a full postbox is not good!! Is the ground floor usually allocated to any student with disabilities? 3/4 floors doesn't sound too unbareable, even if i end up at the top!

There were 3 people with visible/invisible disabilities in my flat...but now that New College no longer exists, that may not happen so much.

To an extent it depends on the person.

I have a very visible disability (wheelchair user), but people can't tell that I'm partially sighted too (and tend to forget).

A common invisible disability that would suggest ground floor is fatigue, or a medical condition you can't immediately see.

Sorry i was being facetious, invisible disability sounded like a thing where people can't become ivisible. I wasn't taking the piss incase anyone thought i was!

No; some people really don't know - so I was giving an example. Some people don't bump into disabled people until they reach uni, and some disabilities (e.g. dyslexia/chronic fatigue) can be misunderstood, which can make life hard for students that have them

I can't pretend to understand what havng a disability must be like, but my best friend has dyslexia, (only diagnosed in her first year of uni) and it has made her school life pretty tough so i appreciate it must be really difficult for anybody with a disability of any kind. I guess most people only have to worry about making friends, missing home and enjoying the course when moving to uni, but disabled students have other considerations as well, which can't be fun.

I am sorry if anyone thought i was being at all insensitive.
