The people of Sunderland and a few other towns in the NE maybe deciding that they should erect a statue of Thatcher in gratitude to the Tory party and their icon May.
Despite being a strongly labour area the Tory tabloid press has reached out to brainwash citizens of these towns to ditch labour and left wing beliefs for UKIP. Now they have their Brexit, they idolise Tory May as she promises to deliver a super hard staunchly EU-phobic Brexit and are getting the taste of true right wing politics.

In grateful thanks to May and the Tory party, the people of these towns are erecting a statue of Margaret Thatcher in their town square, to show support for right wing Tory values. They know they lost the pits, ship building and steel industry because of the Tories and are suffering massive welfare cuts, but thank the Tories for stopping immigrants coming to Britain by leaving the EU because they actually believe what the Tory tabloids say and you get a free low budget DVD with most tabloids.

It is an insult to even suggest more than a stylistic/superifical similarity between May and Thatcher.

Thatcher was a mild Eurosceptic with principles (whether you liked her views or not is a different issue). May is a run of the mill 21st century careerist politician with no real political identity other than "whatever gets me elected and keeps me in power".
