What would make someone lovely at work but horrible outside of it watch

    Really confused.
My work colleague is lovely to me at work, sits by my desk deliberately so we can chat, makes a special effort to be nice to me, chats to me more than anyone else. But firstly he will never be alone with me and in social events he is a completely different person. At work parties he avoids me completely.

What would make someone lovely at work and ignore me completely outside of it? If you disliked someone you would keep your distance at both, and if you liked someone you would be friendly at both.
    Very, very odd. Any ideas?

He is recently single but was in a long term relationship for 5 years before they split 4 months ago.

He sometimes pretends to forget my surname too and when we are at social events keeps pointing to girls and telling me they're hot. Very strange.

Maybe he thinks you're interested in him, so whenever you see each other socially he's trying to tell you he is not interested in you. I don't know, just a guess.

Yes that could be the case.
If he ignored me in and outside of work I wouldn't care, if he was nice in and out of work I wouldn't think anythig
Of it. But he is so different in work and at social events.

    He's had two people
Openly say they have a crush on him and he's just nice and friendly to them and one is a guy and the other 40!
So he's no interest in them but has no issue with being nice outside of work to them.
