What's most important to you to make sure you pick the right one?

    :cookie:

What are you asking yourself right now?

Or what did you ask yourself before you chose if you're at uni already?

    Can I see myself there?

A university might be academically brilliant but if you can't see yourself living the life in the city/town it resides in then you have no chance.

I completely agree. This is probably the most important question.
I also had a good think about whether the course considered was the right one for me and whether it really appealed to me.

I agree - I completely felt at home there so knew it was right for me

What had to appeal to you for you to know it was the right choice?

For me it's gone kind of like:
-is it far enough away? (I need excuses to not spend money going back to see the fam)
-does the course look like it's aight?
-can I see myself being there and really enjoying it? (I can see myself at least 'coping' with all of the unis I went and saw but wasn't reaaaallly feelin it for a couple of em)

I then had a space left on the ucas form so I threw St Andrews on. Kind of like entering the euromillions in terms of the chances of me going there but it's cost £28 instead of £2.50.

I believe most appropriate way of handling it for most people is doing what I've done except for the first and last parts. The first part is somewhat relevant though. Distance does have to be considered if you want to visit your fam a lot, or alternatively not at all. However it's probably not as important compared to checking out course quality and whether you actually like the place or not.

    1. Do I actually want to go there?

When I was picking my uni choices I was being pressured into applying to a backup choice with really low requirements, but I decided not to apply to it in the end because if I actually got those grades, I would be dismayed at having to go.

What does the course offer? Same course title doesn't mean the modules are the same.

Distance was another one for me. At the time of applying, (2009) there were about 4 unis that did my course. (Forensic Computing) One would have invovled flying, which would have been a right faff. (Sunderland - I'm in Plymouth)
