Hi. There are lots of jobs in the pharmaceutical industry for which you dont need to be a pharmacist, but to work as a pharmacist in community, hospital and industry you need to take the MPharm and do a pre-reg year and then register with the royal pharm. society.

Hello
I'm just wondering say i wanted to work as an industrial pharmacist would i need a MPHARM degree or would i be able to get in with an MSci or MChem degree. I want to work in companies like AstraZenica.

Thanks
MPharm and MChem can both get you into industry (depends which sectors). I don't know about MChem, but MPharm in most cases isn't enough. The common roads for MPharm graduates are community and hopsital. A small number actually get into industry, and we're talking about top unis for Pharmacy here. So usually a Phd would be required. For Chem, I've seen a few unis offer a year in industry placement. This should be very useful, and I think the companies hire quite a few of their placement students when they graduate.

Everytime theres a thread on industrial pharmacy i post this link from the independant, but i never get any opinions or views. Also read the articles under pharmacy special. I did work experience at Astra and they did say that they do recruit pharmacists.
