What calamity in life would prevent a guy from talking to a girl that he used to talk to regularly for almost two years ??

Claiming he will message her again "soon" when asked....

My mind is full of scenarios

Truly I have no idea. Could be anything; to do with family, work, finance, friends..
    Sorry I'm not much use.

I asked to see him but no response as of yet... been a few days and he's constantly online on his phone

Call him or maybe ask his friends?
or maybe wait till he gets back to you after this crisis is over and then ask?
But don't be too pushy I guess because he's only likely to tell you if he trusts you anyway

Tried calling but he doesn't answer.. don't know any of his friends. Just weird as we were v v close up until the day before he stopped talking to me. We had so many deep convos and heart to hearts the week before. We used to tell each other EVERYthing. That's what is baffling me

Maybe worth mentioning he's in his 30's so not a young boy.

Maybe this will help... although this more about dating I think rather than to do with friends:
