I don't know about Grosevnor but I know someone staying in Whitworth and he says all ground floors are all male - it's an anti-rape measure apprently...

(I imagine disabled-access flats are an exception.)

Of course, no self-respecting person would rape a girl who lives on the 2nd floor, oh no.
:p:

It'd be easier for them to get through the window.
Happened at the university of Kent in Darwin College. As a result, no girls are given rooms on the ground floor.

I just rang up and im on the first floor, not the ground floor. He said as i was female there was no chance i'd be on the ground floor so i guess it's safe to say ground floors ARE all male x

I've just been allocated Flat A, Room 9 at Jesmond Road in Newcastle. I assume thats on the gorund floor and i'm female. My dads not happy about it but I can't exactly do anything about it now, I was offered the worst accomodation they have I think so its not like the next one they give me will be any better...

Reply 8

Mine's block 29, Flat A, I assumed flat A would be ground floor.... do all unis not put girls on the ground floor, then?

Reply 9

I'm on the ground floor and I'm staying in Cardiff Uni! They obviously don't do it there...

Reply 10

In Manchester met single sex flats are on the ground floor, so not all uni's put males on the ground floor

Reply 11

Reply 12

don't ground floor rooms have bars on? all the places ive looked at have as an anti crime measure

Reply 13

I'm on the ground floor at cardiff as well :frown:. Taly North though

I was on the ground floor last year, although it seems like it's not a very common practice at the uni. I think it was just because I was in an all-girl block (not my decision...).

It's not that bad, anyway. As long as you're careful, and you make sure that you keep your room secure then it's fine. Keep your window closed if you're out of the room - even if you're just nipping to the loo - and keep your windows fully closed and locked at night. If there's an alarm on your window, then make sure it's activated at all times, and preferably, keep your curtains closed as much as possible to protect your privacy.

There is an advantage of a ground floor room.... If you happen to return from a tiring trip or something, then you don't have to deal with going up stairs

Lol! No way :p:

One advantage of being on the ground floor is that you don't have to lug all your heavy stuff up and down flights of stairs at the beginning and end of term - I'm on the 3rd floor and it nearly kills the whole family!

I was on the ground floor last year, still had to go down some stairs. But I liked it...

I want to be on the ground floor again, but apparently my mate has emailed the company to see what room he's in, and I'm gonna be on a higher floor! I don't wanna be!
