Drink driving limits in the UK

perhaps its just because im tired and need to go to bed, but about an hour ago i decided to look to see if i could find how many units of alcohol is in a 568ml bottle of Magners... anyway, im so frustrated cos i've managed to come up with nothing!

what i want to know is whether or not it is legal to drive after consuming a bottle of Magners. im also interested in learning what the legal limit of alcohol is to drive on... and not in the 80ml for every 100ml or something, cos that just confused me even more lol but anyway, if anyone could help i'd be very grateful, thanks in advance!

1 unit is 10ml of alcohol if i recall correctly.

magners is 4.5% i think and it's sold in pint bottles. 4.5% of 568ml is 25.5...so i'd say its 2.5 units.

the drink drive limits are something like mg/litre of blood which doesn't correspond to "units" as written on bottles so it's tough to work out.

i reckon you'd be ok on 1 bottle of magners...it's not that strong.

ah thank you! i've been drinking it lately after having it bought for me by nice customers at work, and then driving home... so basically, whether or not you are over the limit depends not just on how much you've been drinking, but your body size in general, how much you've eaten and other things? xx

Yes, as the posters say, you can't calculate your limit, so don't try.

Um, so what are you supposed to do? Just go "ah, **** it" have four pints and drive home?

OP: the unitage is on the side of the bottle, surely? Isn't that common practice?

Er no... you just don't drink if you're gonna be driving...

Why dont you just not have anything to drink if you are driving, surely that would be safer?

I just dont see the point in risking it and then having to lose your licence if it is that you're over the limit
