So I am extremely interested in becoming a diplomat and I wish to take on international relations on to degree. However I'm not sure which language to take alongside? I'm currently taking Japanese and Russian GCSE alongside my a levels and may even take Russian to A-level but I was wondering which would be best to go into diplomacy? Is there a certain demand for a specific language?
Thank You

If you work for the Foreign and Commonwealth office (which will include stints abroad at embassies) then you would be a civil servant, not a diplomat. See here: https://www.faststream.gov.uk/diplomatic-service/

The golden rule for language learning is to choose a language you enjoy. Usefulness is all well and good, but people who start learning a language they don't enjoy nearly always end up failing. In general terms, the most useful languages for FCO employees to learn are Arabic, Russian, French, Spanish, German, and Chinese. The Foreign Office provides language training for its employees anyway, so there is certainly no requirement to study a language at A level or university (although it helps).
