Find something you can bond over i.e. something you have in common. The point of small talk is to find things in common you can talk about e.g. hobbies, lessons etc. Then just share what you have to share and the other person will share things back.

Or you can bond over an activity e.g. school work, a game etc. and talk about that rather than having small talk all the time. I personally hate small talk so I try to talk about things in common with the other person or ask random but interesting questions rather than just the standard ones.
