So I've got a question that basically says "how would you direct x using x approach?". From what I've read people say not to use "I" or what you think but i don't know how I'd answer this without using "I"... Help?

You find sources which deal with the same or similar situation. You describe how the subject was directed in those cases and use those to reach a conclusion about how x should be directed using x approach as per your question. Then conclude with something like "Based on the cases cited, the most appropriate direction for x would therefore be ...."
