GYG THREAD
About me
My education in England started a little over three years ago. Coming from a non-English speaking country, I have faced many challenges before becoming accustomed to the language and the culture. However, thanks to the support of friends and teachers my journey has been incredible and has allowed me to flourish as a student.
Achieved GCSEs
A*A*A*A*A*A*AAAABB

Achieved A-levels
A*bbbc

Currently studying + predicted grades
Chemistry - A
Maths - A
Biology - B

Universities I am applying to
UCL, Queen Mary, KCL, Brunel and Nottingham.
All for Biochemistry.

12/11/2016
It's been 2 months since I started A2 at a new sixth-form and as it stands I am underachieving in all my subjects. I have obtained my predicted grades because of the kindness of my teachers, for which I am grateful.

My current situation is as such:
  • Maths average in 3 assignments + 3 mini-tests - 63% (C)
  • Chemistry tests in Sept. and Oct. - C and B
  • Biology tests in Sept. and Oct.- C and D

My plan is to grow my grades over time, by being committed and following a 25 minutes per day revision (per subject, but this will change depending on the work-load).

By the end of March I want to complete
  • Notepads + flashcards As + A2 Biology
  • Notepads + flashcards As + A2 Chemistry
  • 4 to 5 pages documents for each module in Maths.

I am going to keep this blog updated every single day so that I can track my progress and ensure a steady climb.

This morning, I have taken my chemistry book and done every single assignment sheet that I have neglected for the past two months (approx. all of them, around 17).

The topics I have covered are:
  • Entropy
  • C13 and H+ NMR
  • Equilibrium Constants
  • Bronsted-Lowry
  • Titration analysis
  • Some other random calculation stuff

Tomorrow I only have maths, and with only 3 days to the mini-test I tried out the Jan. 2012 AQA C3 paper, up to question 5 + a horrible attempt to question 6.

I also self-marked the short test and obtained 19/30, which is only 63%.

1 of 5 integration questions done, 0 of 5 differentiation

WEAKNESSES
  • need to read on the Simpson's rule
  • find what is iterative process
  • be more careful with powers and signs

PLAN FOR TOMORROW'S FREE PERIODS
  • Do work in weaknesses section
  • Do question 6, 7, 8 and 9 + self-mark

Don't forget Biology Wednesday
Do notes on inheritance and all the stuff that has been covered last week + today.
  • Recombination - research Sherman's paradox
  • Epistasis
  • Co-dominance
  • Polygenic inheritance
  • Multi-allele inheritance
  • Law of segregation
  • Pedigree diagrams + research Huntington disorder and cystic fibrosis
  • Sex linkage
  • Autosomal

NB: Jan 2012 marked past paper questions 1 to 5 attached as pictures in docs.

TO DO for tomorrow

M1 - go over everything from beginning + do 3 questions. MAX. 40 minutes.

ORGANIC CHEM - go over last lesson + research acylation. MAX. 30 minutes.
