If you are in education then speak to someone in your school or college.

If you are not in education currently and don't have a C grade then you can attend free part time courses that would be provided by local adult education services or local colleges. However, it is too late to start these courses this year. It may be possible to join a functional skills class in either maths or English that will at least help you work on your skills and might lead to an equivalent level 2 qualification.

If you think you can study at home and pass them then you can enter as a private candidate. There is advice for private candidates on each examiner web site. Any school or college can accept your entry for the exams but many choose not to, it's up to you to find somewhere that will. If you have recently left education a good place to ask is at your last school or college. Colleges and independent schools are usually more willing to accept private candidates. The price you will be asked to pay will vary widely so you might want to shop around. Your timing isn't good as the maths and English GCSE exams taken by most schools this summer will be for the new grade 9-1 specifications and you may need help to meet the new requirements that they demand. [note: you might be able to find a centre offering private candidate resits of the specification you originally took, there is a last chance to do them this summer. Not every centre will offer them so you need to start your search now.]

Hi, If you just want to arrange a resit and are already studying at a college then it's always worth asking them if you can sit as a private candidate. If you are looking to take the courses again and cannot find a course at your local college then you might consider a distance learning course through the National Extension College. My name is Jo and I'm a Course Advisor at NEC. We offer GCSE and A level course via distance learning. You can enrol at any time and study with us online. We provide online course materials via our learning platform and a subject specialist tutor will be assigned to you, who will mark and provide feedback on your assignments. You can sit the exams at one of our partner centres or you can make you own arrangements as a private candidate at a centre that's convenient to you. (We can provide a list of centres to our students of exam centres that accept private candidates). You can find out about our courses at www.nec.ac.uk
