    Hi
I'm writing an EPQ... and basically.. I've written an essay before with a similar title (just not as long as 5000 words) and I want to recycle some of what I've already done. Would this be considered plagiarism? I mean, it is my work and its unique content and I'd only be using about 40% of that essay in my work. It won't be flagged for plagiarism will it?

It shouldn't be, as you can't plagiarise yourself. I did my EPQ based on an essay I'd written previously, using it as a guide on what to write (and adding a lot more to it obviously). In my opinion, if you don't copy your old essay word for word (depending on what it was for and how important it was), and make some changes to the content, format etc, and reference all material which isn't yours, then you should be fine

    You can't plagiarise yourself.

But check with your teacher if you have any doubts about the suitability of recycling prior work.
