Here's the article from my local newspaper.....

    http://www.newsday.com/news/printedi...,7140101.story

Does anyone else see the ironic nature in a nation basically founded by genocide survivors sending refugees from another genocide back....most likely to their deaths?

For people that constantly want us to remember the Holocaust they sure seem quick to forget it when others are fleeing a genocide.

You either didn't bother to read the article or have a rather limited intellect. The article clearly states that refugees will be returned to Egypt from where they illegally crossed into Israel. :nn:

Yes, but Israel should have a moral responsibility to help refugees fleeing from genuine danger. After all, it was founded as a result of a mass genocide on the Jewish people, so by not helping a fellow community in fear of potential genocide (if it isn't happening already) is ironic and shocking imo. This will only give more ammunition to the anti-Israeli's out there.

Surely, the Israelis are more capable of taking care of these refugees in contrast to Egypt?
    Anyway, their country their policies.

Israel's history does not give it unlimited space and resources. The article says they have been trying to allow as many as they could, but when the population of an entire country is less than the population of the city you (OP) are from, 50 people a day is a sizable addition.

Also, your thread title is misleading, and what's this about "for people that constantly want us to remember the holocaust." So, it comes up in the history if Israel's founding. Other than that, what the hell are you talking about?

These people were not in danger - they were in Egypt where they were no longer in danger. And should Israel (a tiny strip of land housing just a few million) be morally obligated to take in every refugee from anywhere in the world? Don't be daft. This is only ammunition to people who already hate Israel. No rational person could view this as anything other than a sensible and necessary policy.

EDIT: OP would you consider changing the title of the thread given that it is factually wrong?
