I am currently doing an access to midwifery course and have started my personal statement for uni. I feel really hopeless and all I'm hearing is that university courses for midwifery are really hard to get onto. I feel like I'm not even going to be called for interview. Does anyone have any tips on how I can make my personal statement stand out? I already volunteer at an outpatients department, but someone told me that it wasn't enough.

Moved into the Nursing and Midwifery area.

There is a personal statement guidance document in my signature below which should be useful to you. If you have any further questions about your PS after that, or if anything doesn't make sense, feel free to let me know

It can be really demoralising when all you are hearing is that your course is very competitive and feeling as though you are not doing enough. The important thing is that you talk about your volunteering in the correct way, and really make the most of it in your PS. I'm sure you will have some very valuable skills and experiences that you can talk about. Again, there is a lot of advice regarding this in the PS guidance document.

There are so many factors involved in deciding whether to give an applicant a place, grades, PS and performance at interview are amongst the most important for midwifery. All you can do is try to ensure each stage of your application is the best it can be.
