GCSE further maths or additional maths

Which is harder?

Hey,

Last year, I took the GCSE Level 2 Further Maths exam for AQA and I'd say that it was quite easy, and it puts you in REALLY good stead for when you study Core 1 and 2 if you decide to do Maths at A-Level.

I've also done some Additional Maths papers, although I didn't sit an exam for them. I found it generally a lot harder that further Maths, but it's a matter of opinion.

Good luck!

After I completed GCSE maths in year 10, we were made to do the FSMQ additional maths, albeit I didn't do great in it, but it definitely prepared and made me more confident with the topics once I started learning C1 and C2 in A Level. (Also if you really mess the additional maths like I did, it doesn't really matter that much anyway as it's a bonus thing that most people don't even get to do!)

Additional math is harder but is the one you should do - it is about 25% of A-level math - equivalent to most of IB Math SL. It gives you a great running start. Note that you can still do well in A-level math and A-level further maths without it - and many do. As I said, it just gives you a running start.
