I didn't take Music at A-Level or GCSE as I wasn't even learning an instrument then but since I picked up the guitar three years ago, I've wanted to do a degree in Music and Korean.

SOAS says that it doesn't require people to have music at A-Level to do the joint course but it says something about GCSE's at the side which doesn't make much sense to me.

The website looks quite clear to me; you need at least a GCSE in Music, and to demonstrate an "academic ability and active involvement in musical performance or composition". Learning to play the guitar is a good example of this, but they will also want to see some evidence of engaging with music as an academic subject - so if you haven't already, start reading some music-related books.

If you are still unsure, email the admissions tutor. Getting in touch with them always helps, if they can put a name/voice to an application then you're more likely to get in.
