the vast majority of chat rooms ive been on, on yahoo are pontless. the conversation always turns to sex and cussing and chat bots advertising stuff. people always IM to ask for webcam or advertise their own webcam and they arent very productive at all. the vast majority of chat rooms are of this nature no matter if they are about geneology, politics, school or sport.
This is spot on. And rather than 'playful innuendo' amongst people (not paedos) of similar age (the kind of thing which I sometimes resort to when I'm in a more banal frame of mind) - the stuff on Yahoo Chat is downright gutter filth.

I see no point in them, all they do is attract pedophiles, and waste alot of everyones time. Instead of wasting so much money on internet police, it would be so much easier to completely ban them. The concept of 10 year oldsbeing able to speak to complete strangers is disturbing.
I feel the same way . I try retreating to the "Christian" chat rooms sometimes, but they always turn into the usual idiotic battle to convert the ranting atheist who has no intention of changing. (Not meaning to offend anyone there.)

But Yahoo Chat is repugnant. It makes me sick to the stomach.
All the more reason for them to stay. PIssing off the thought police is always good fun.

This isn't a chatroom in the sense of Yahoo Chat (which I abhor) - it's a [moderated] message board.

As you have probably encountered, I like my fill of fun and good cheer as much as any other man. But Yahoo Chat is repugnant. It makes me sick to the stomach. It should be banned.
If it makes you sick then dont go there. Im sorry, but its a bit like drinking a bottle of soap and then demand it banned because you do not feel well.

Reminds me of something I heard on TV. Viewers complaining about QAF where there are two single sexed couples who kissed on the show as part of the act. Thing is it was on Ch4 at 10pm onwards and they sat through it and complained. You got the remote, turn it over.

I've been there twice (a while ago) and never revisited since. That was more than enough! The place is repugnant.

If that's the reason you want chatrooms banned, would you want to see sites like this banned as well?

A 10 year old on here can talk to complete strangers as well...

internet is a lot different to tv and some stupid joke about soap. address the real point instead of making stupid examples that are hardly related.

there would be a differene between banning this message board and chat. message boards are moderated and it is a lot more unlikely that something dirty would happen with a bunch of maths and computing students thenon live chat.

when u say about strangers. there is a difference as on chat u r with people u know nothing about and cannot see whereas in the real world people will not go upto strangers. being in your own house gives u a false sense of security. people are not saying anything about banning message boards. they are talking about chat rooms. message boards are more time consuming and have topics which others will ocmpalin about if they are not stuck to. everyone knows the problem is with chat and not message boards.

WHY DID MSN CHANGE THEIR CHAT AND STOP IT ALTOGETHER SOME PLACES THEN?

there is no apparent danger from tv concerning perverts as contact cannot be made with people through tv programmes. there are tv rules and regulations which prohibit certain standards and have things like watershed and not put porn on b4 certain times and having to subscribe to porn etc. therefore the crass tv analogy has no relavance. get to the point in question.

the interent on the other hand does not have any rules or standards and so perverts can be predators and when things are said u do not know if they are true or not. filth is readily advertised and talked about in chat rooms.

IF MSN CAN DO SOMETHING WHY CANT THE OTHER TOP ISPS?

i remember when reporters in the express and on tv started looking into chat. they found it similarly abhorrent with filth being plyed and forced onto people and people asking for fone numbers, webcams, personal details and lots of sick talk. they were disgusted. most in the media are. those who dont like the idea of the internet being tightened up on here are probably hippies who oppose any tightening of laws or genrral monitoring or just 1000+ posteres who recomment the internet as a lifestyle.

Websites can do this too, swinger sites and the rest of it. Don't here websites criticised and condemned to be all banned on the same basis as chatrooms.
there is nothing wrong with going to a website of that purpose to do that...but i dont want to go to a chat room and have to see people cybering and seeing dirty photos in people's profiles...i doesnt bother me so much, but some epople get offended.

I agree. I do hear comments about the state of cybering from some of my college mates, all of those in question that they speak of are around the 15 year old age mark. It wasn't like this when I was 15 years old.
